OHRP is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health in the Office of the Secretary of HHS.
Human research subjects involved in research conducted or supported by the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) are protected by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). The OHRP is part of HHS’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health.
Regulations, Policy & Guidance
In order to assist the research community in conducting ethical research that complies with HHS regulations, OHRP has published numerous policy and regulatory guidance materials. Guidelines and frequently asked questions (FAQs) on different topics are available, along with letters from the OHRP on regulatory issues, decision tree graphics, and educational videos.
Compliance & Reporting
Human research subjects are protected through the policies and regulations of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). OHRP conducts for-cause compliance evaluations regarding human subject research projects conducted or supported by HHS or subject to regulations, based on allegations of noncompliance. Additionally, DCO conducts not-for-cause surveillance evaluations of institutions and responds to incident reports.
SACHRP Committee
Assisting the Secretary of HHS in protecting human subjects in research is the mission of the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protections (SACHRP).
