In India, the National Apex Committee for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (NAC-SCRT) is an apex body that oversees the activities in stem cell research conducted by the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As part of the NAC-SCRT, science, technology, ethics, law, and social issues related to stem cell research and therapy will be examined.
Functions of the NAC-SCRT
The NAC-SCRT is a multidisciplinary committee with a Secretariat. It has two main functions:
- Overseeing the field of stem cell research and therapy in India and formulating policies related to it
- Detailed analysis of controversial research and proposals for therapeutic uses of stem cells or differentiated derivatives.
